Principles

Our History

META has been working with employers and job seekers since 1979. Check out our history to see how we got to where we are today.

1979

META started as a satellite office of the Vocational Department in the Kingston General Hospital providing work adjustment training through fee-for-service funding from MCSS and Canada Employment Services.

1981

META was incorporated as a not-for-profit, registered charity with a volunteer board of directors.

1990

META began offering itinerant services to ODSP clients in the Durham Region.

1994

Our Durham office opened offering fee-for-service, Job Finding Club and ODSP.

1997

Our Durham office was awarded funding to launch its Growth Opportunities (GO) program.

2010

Our Belleville office was selected as a designated Employment Ontario site.

2013

Our Belleville office received additional funding for youth employment.

2014

Our Belleville office was selected to run the Summer Jobs Service (SJS), and funding for the Canada-Ontario Job Grant program began.

2018

Our Supported Employment program began in our Belleville office. 

2019

Our Durham office opened its new Resource and Information Centre.

Through various programs funded by both the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development and the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, we offer the following broad suite of services:

  • Industry Knowledge (Social Services, Employment, Disabilities)
